Tension is brewing in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) with the party’s electoral commission boss facing a test of loyalty and truth after candidates for National Female Youth MP move to boycott the internal elections over bias and confusion.
At the centre of the storm is Nakku Fiona a candidate who is seeking the NRM party flag to be the National Female Youth MP in the 12th parliament. Fiona who by the look of things is well connected, well funded and is said to be a young sister to the party’s National Treasurer Nekessa Barbara Oundo.
Available information reveal that Fiona is above the age cap for the position she’s vying for. According to the National Youth Council Act, the position is reserved for Youths between 18-30 years. However, Naku Fiona is 31 years which makes her too old to qualify for the same position.
To make things more complicated for Nekesa’s young sister, the National Identifications and Registrations Authority (NIRA) declined to amend her age to 30 years which she had applied for few months ago.
“In keeping with NIRA’s duty to maintain an accurate and credible National Identification Register, NIRA investigated and reviewed the application and found that for change of date of birth was irregular and has therefore been cancelled”-reads part of the letter NIRA wrote back to ABNO Advocates who had sought clarification on the same.
Naku Fiona is contesting with Mercy Kanyesigye, Kobusinge Olivia, Diana Ampaire Kampe, Gold Ikyikiriza and Sandra Chebet for the NRM ticket ahead of the general elections of 2026.
