Respect Buganda First Before Getting Our Vote! Delegates Turn Heat on Karangwa

With only hours remaining for the CEC regional chairpersonships voting to kick off at Kololo airstrip, delegates from especially northern and eastern parts of Uganda have remained nervous about their party boss Museveni and other NRM candidates failing to get votes in the central region come 2026.

Most delegates are convinced that Museveni can keep victory in north and eastern and even west where he comes from but they are fearing that Buganda’s growing hostility will make even the rest of Uganda hard to govern for Museveni.

This is the reason even at their hotels were they are sleeping, the delegates are eager to see who wins the Buganda race and becomes NRM chairman for central. It’s a race they are watching closely and as they do, many of them have repeatedly made it clear it will be suicidal to vote for Moses Karangwa who has not showed any readiness and ability to work out any good deal and warm relationship with Mengo which is the seat of power in Buganda.

There are growing fears that a Karangwa win will create more hostility and make it even harder for the NRM to have a good relationship with Buganda kingdom which calls shots in central region.

Some of the delegates have reached out to Karangwa directly and told him point blank that he must demonstrate to them if he has any good connections with Mengo and the larger Buganda kingdom leadership in order to qualify for their vote.

This is a demand Karangwa can’t meet because people at Mengo want him to first denounce Capt. Baker Kimeze Ssabanyara, the rebel king based in Kayunga from where he keeps challenging Kabaka Mutebi’s authority and power. They want Karangwa to declare publicly that the county of Kayunga Bugerere is Kabaka Mutebi’s and not Ssabanyara’s.
