During Kabaka’s 32nd coronation anniversary at Kibuli, the leadership of Buganda Kingdom and more so Prince Nakibinge, who is the most influential of Kabaka Mutebi’s grandfathers and is also the titular head of all muslims in Uganda, showed extreme fondness for micro finance minister Haruna Kasolo who is also fighting hard to become the new ruling NRM party chairman for Buganda.
Kasolo, who has been Nakibinge’s blue-eyed boy for many years, was given priority by the host, Prince Nakibinge, ahead of more senior ministers like JC Muyingo and Minsa Kabanda who were present too. These are cabinet ministers, which makes them more senior than Kasolo who is a mere minister of state but that didn’t stop Prince Nakibinge from treating him with clear preference.
Nakibinge invited Kasolo, whose political future he later on discussed with Katikkiro Mayiga, to introduce fellow ministers and other Museveni, NRM supporters who were present.
The fondness with which Nakibinge referred to Kasolo and treated him throughout the event, left many onlookers and journalists present with no option but to conclude that the incoming Kyotera county MP is the one the leadership of Buganda Kingdom, of which Nakibinge is part, prefers to emerge as the new NRM leader in the central region.
Nakibinge has many young politicians and business leaders he prefers and closely continues to mentor both in Kasolo’s NRM and opposition including Erias Lukwago, Abubaker Kawalya, Semujju Nganda etc. Kin Kariisa, who is a good pal of Semujju Nganda and Erias Lukwago, is also among these.
NRM showman Joseph Sewava Mukasa, who is eyeing the same CEC position, was also present at the Kibuli coronation celebrations grounds but the aides blocked him from coming near Prince Nakibinge with whom he wanted to take a photo to increase his electability chances.
