Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Law Tests America’s Claim Of Democratic Governance

0
Dr. Kitalikibi Abrahams

Dear Editor,
From the inception of this bill majority of the Ugandans have been in serious support of it. When it was returned to parliament by the president for some corrections, many Ugandans, religious leaders, members of Parliament and other outstanding figures in the country were not happy.

They wanted a law against homosexuality in place within the shortest time possible. This is an indication that this anti-homosexuality legislation attracted the attention and interest of majority of Ugandans.

To prove it’s popularity and overwhelming support by Ugandans, when it was tabled in parliament the first time for voting, it attracted majority of the parliamentarians from across the political parties. Even during the second time of it’s voting after making corrections as advised by the president, the biggest percentage of the MPs were in support and therefore it went through.

Throughout all the stages of the process of having a law against homosexuality, the U.S and many other western rich countries have been warning against such a law and these countries have been threatening to put sanctions on Uganda and also withdraw their aid to Uganda.

They further claim the law is discriminatory and against human rights. These are the same countries that have been giving us headache about democracy and democratic governance. They claim to be democratic, they claim to respect rule of law and democracy and go ahead to sponsor other countries to ensure democracy is the way to go.

Now on the issue of the ant- homosexuality law, this law is a product of the democracy which they have been preaching to us. It’s the people’s representatives ( in this case the parliamentarians) who consulted their voters and their voters directed them to enact such a law.

Therefore we expected USA and other countries which claim to be democratic to be happy that the democracy they like has decided to produce such a law. USA and other countries that are upset by this anti-homosexuality law are hypocrites, they want democracy to be applied selectively.

When it comes to political leadership, they support free and fair elections but when it comes to certain laws like this very one, they want to practice indirect dictatorship by using threats of withdrawing their financial support so that we can bow to their decision!!!

Therefore, this anti-homosexuality law of Uganda has tested the democratic claims of these western countries and they have failed the test. I can suspect that they emphasize democracy where they have a hidden agenda for their benefits and where democracy won’t enable them achieve their selfish motives they want  to dictate indirectly or use other unfair means.

Ugandans and our leaders should ignore these hypocrites and we move on to manage the affairs of our own country. We should fight hard to defeat neo-colonialism. Above all we should put all our trust in God for solutions to all our problems. Otherwise western countries may lead us to perishing.

Mac Allister Set To Join New Club In a Few Days

0

Alexis Mac Allister is set to join his new club in the “next few days” after bidding farewell to Brighton in their final game of the Premier League season. The Argentine was reduced to tears following the Seagulls’ 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa and Liverpool have emerged as the most likely candidates to seal his signature

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit are staring at a midfield overhaul despite turning their season around to claim a fifth-placed finish. They are said to be in advanced talks with Mac Allister’s entourage and personal terms are reportedly nearly completed. And now Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the 24-year-old will leave Brighton “in the next few days”.

His visibly emotional reaction at full-time certainly suggested that he has played his final game for Brighton, as Liverpool look to conclude some early business and get Mac Allister through the door sooner rather than later. The player’s father has jetted into the country which also suggests that a deal is imminent, though it is unclear whether a fee has been agreed with Brighton.

The Seagulls are known to be tough negotiators while there have been conflicting reports over whether Mac Allister has a release clause in his contract that becomes active this summer. In any case, Brighton are set to make a sizable profit on what they paid Argentinos Juniors in 2019.

Roberto De Zerbi appeared resigned to losing both Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, who has admirers at Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, despite securing Europa League football. The Italian admitted that the duo deserved to play “in a higher level” in a further indication that Liverpool could soon get their man.

“I think it can be the last game of Alexis and Moises Caicedo,” De Zerbi said after having his arm around Mac Allister at Villa Park. “I am really sorry because they are two great people and two great players.

But the policy of Brighton is like this and we have to accept it. I think it’s right they can leave, they can change team and they can play in a level higher.

“Sincerely I don’t know but it can be and we are ready, I think. We have to find other big players to play without Alexis and Moises.

MUHIMBISE GEORGE: Revoking Speaker Among’s USA visa Over Anti-Gay Law Is Barbaric And Sheer Arrogance!

0

By Muhimbise George

Shortly after the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among announced that the President had signed the Anti homosexuality law, the US government announced a cancellation of Hon Among’s visa to the United States!

This is perhaps the worst form of arrogance and exercise of raw power for a modern country like the US. Of course, on one hand it exposes the US and the west hypocrisy as self-styled champions of democracy and tolerance yet on the other hand it puts to test our independence as an African state and whether we have the backbone to stand our word & maintain our stand!

This law was passed by a Parliament with close to 400 MPs voting in its favor, it was supported by Ugandans across political, religious, cultural & economic divide and finally assented to by the President. Why the US would single out only the Speaker and Hon Basalirwa speaks to the imperialistic politics of blackmail & intimidation that is being perpetuated by the so-called fathers of democracy. Why didn’t they punish all the MPs who passed the law or other Ugandans who supported it?

Indeed, Hon Among has staked her back, sacrificed herself for the sanctity of our values and the future of this country. She had two different paths to choose between; either a simple path of succumbing to the pressures including accepting to be compromised with the crumbs from the West or the hard path standing with confidence and courage in the face of threats. She chose a hard one; to stand tall to be seen & to speak loudly to be heard; there is no doubt that both the future & history will absolve and exonerate her.

There is no doubt that the US and Western obsessive love for homosexuality to the extent of imposing it on Africans almost at a gun point is not only evil intended, bad and dangerous, but is also aimed at entrenching their hegemonic interests on us as Africans. It is good that the Ugandan Parliament stood their ground thus did not betray Ugandans.

The US and its allies have for decades directly or indirectly sponsored or presided over gross human rights violations in Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Palestine among others. The US has also established and maintained the famous Guantanamo Bay prison where reports of gross human rights abuse have been mentioned and they have continued funding African despots whose regimes continue to violet the fundamental freedoms and rights of their own citizens.

As war mongers, the US have continued to perpetuate and distill violence and tyranny in Asia, the Middle East and Africa in which gross human rights violation and bloodshed have consistently persisted, they dont have the moral authority to police anybody on human rights!

The west and US power has been constructed on bloodshed through their endless military adventures, the beauty is that the world has understood them, their influence has reached its peak, and soon will reach diminishing returns after which it will crumble like a pack of cards!

The US and the west should know that Uganda is sovereign state, they should know that we have our strongly cherished values and interests which we are willing to protect at all costs and they cannot impose homosexuality on us, at least without a fight.

Their arrogance demonstrates their chauvinistic attitude, an inflated sense of self-importance and exaugurated ego! We aren’t their peg boys to follow their dictates without question.

The efforts and resources that they continue to pour in their “nonstarter” homosexuality project should be rather allocated to secure the rights and dignity of the millions of refugees that have been displaced in senseless wars in the countries mentioned above, championing the rights of the many political prisoners in many African states or to secure the rights of women and children who are being raped and defiled in DRC, South Sudan, Chad and other war tone countries!

The US surely have a lot on their plate, they should not stoop too law to start determining the travels of Uganda’s Speaker, in any case who is not dying to travel to their country! The people of Uganda irrespective of their differences are united in prayer and courage with the President, the Speaker and the Parliament of Uganda in defending our values, and the west should just accept!

Liverpool Eyeing Barcelona Defender Jules Kounde For a Move To Anfield

0
Jules Kounde

Liverpool’s Premier League journey last season concluded with an unsettling defensive display that allowed Southampton, a relegated side, to net four against them. While Liverpool enjoyed a third-place ranking for their attack, the defence, unfortunately, was positioned seventh, directly contributing to their failure to break into the top four.

To enhance their backline, Liverpool are reportedly setting their sights on Barcelona’s Jules Kounde. This intel comes from Spanish media outlet, Nacional, who report on Liverpool’s bid for the French defender. Kounde’s desire to leave, despite Xavi’s wish to retain him at Barcelona, further piques Liverpool’s interest.

Kounde caught the football world’s attention with his performances at Sevilla, where he played as a central defender. His contributions to France’s Nations League triumph two years ago consolidated his reputation. Notably, Kounde declined Chelsea’s interest to join Barcelona where he was deployed at right-back by coach Xavi, a departure from his familiar central defensive role.

Barcelona’s defence, with Kounde as a key element, has managed to concede just 18 goals in 37 league games this season. His Nou Camp tenure began with a transfer fee north of 50 million euros, and according to Catalan sources, the club isn’t keen on letting him go for less than 80 million euros (£69.5m).

Despite Xavi’s preference for Christensen over Kounde, the latter demonstrated his capabilities in the centre-back position against Mallorca. Kounde’s versatility, which saw him play as a right-back for France in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year, could potentially solve some of the defensive issues Liverpool faces under Klopp.

The question remains: should Liverpool secure the signature of Kounde? Given his proven abilities and versatility, Kounde’s addition could potentially bolster Liverpool’s defence.

OWEYEGHA-AFUNADUULA: On President Tibuhaburwa Museveni And Buganda

0
Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi And President Museveni

By Prof Oweyegha-Afunaduula

President Tibuhaburwa Museveni told Baganda today that he worked with Ben Kiwanuka and Sir Edward Mutesa II. Ben Kiwanuka died on September 22 1972. Sir Edward Mutesa II died on November 21 1969.

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi And President Museveni- COURTSEY PHOTO

When Ben Kiwanuka was Chief Minister of Uganda before Independence of the country, and When Sir Edward Mutesa II was President of Uganda (1963-1966), President Museveni must have been a very young man.

According to the President’s own word in his book “The Mustard Seed”, was born in 1944 somewhere 8n the Savannah of Ankole. If this is true, then he was 15 years old in 1961 when Kiwanuka became Chief Minister of Uganda, and he was 19 in 1963 when Sir Edward Mutesa II became President of Uganda.

Questions:

1. Is it possible and reasonable that a 15 year boy worked with the Chief Minister of Uganda in 1961?

2. Is it possible and reasonable that a 19 year old boy worked with the President of &Ganda between 1963 and 1966?

One thing is true. President Tibuhaburwa Museveni joined the University of East Africa at Dar-es-Salaam University College, in 1968 together with people like Wapakhabulo and Ssemwogerere, the former Katikiiro of Buganda. He left University of Dar-es-Salaam (previously University College, Dar-es-Salaam) in 1970.

Some historical accounts state that the young Museveni briefly worked in the President’s Office soon after leaving University of Dar-es-Salaam. It is today, while watching UBC Television that I learnt that President Tibuhaburwa Museveni worked with fallen Ben Kiwanuka and Sir Edward Mutesa II as a young boy.

What is true, however, is that between 1982 and 1986, some Baganda joined the rebel Yoweri Museveni to remove the regimes of Apollo Milton Obote and Tito Okello from power through the barrel of the gun.

When he captured power in 1986, he first said he did not go to the bush to return kingdoms, but later strategically returned the glory of former kingdoms but without political power. He instead called them cultural institutions in the 1995 Uganda Constitution whose making he presided over.

The Kingdoms, including Buganda, seem to have accepted their new status of being just cultural institutions without political power. All their power was surrendered to the President of Uganda, not willingly but by constitutional design.

It is interesting to watch what new relationship will develop between President Tibuhaburwa Museveni and Buganda. The President said today, when Buganda was remembered the raid on Mengo by Obote’s troupes commanded, ironically by Idi Amin, whose rise to power was supported by Buganda.

Politics is a funny field of human endeavor. Friends can easily become enemies, and enemies can easily become friends, often for convenience. Always, one partner in the new friendship benefits more than the other.

For God and My Country.

Marco Asensio Poised For PSG Move From Real Madrid

0

Marco Asensio, the Spanish winger who has won 17 trophies with Real Madrid, is set to leave the club this summer. The 27-year-old has rejected a contract extension offer from Real Madrid and is in negotiations with multiple clubs, including PSG, who have a good rapport with his agent Jorge Mendes. ESPN reported today that Asensio and PSG are in ‘advanced negotiations’.

Asensio joined Real Madrid in 2014 from Mallorca and spent two seasons on loan at Mallorca and Espanyol before becoming a regular in the first team. He made his debut in the 2016 UEFA Super Cup, scoring a stunning goal in a 3-2 win over Sevilla.

He went on to win three Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, three Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey with Real Madrid.

FOR THE BEST WEB HOSTING, WEB DESIGNS AND DOMAIN NAMES, CALL OR WHATSAPP +256758201313

Asensio’s decision to leave Real Madrid comes after a season in which he had his best numbers, scoring 12 goals and assisting six. However, he was not satisfied with his role in the team and wanted more prominence as well as a higher salary. He also had interest from several other clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal in the Premier League.

PSG are keen to sign Asensio as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.

Asensio’s departure will mark the near-end of the three-peat era for Real Madrid, who have lost several key players from that dynastic team, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, Casemiro, Marcelo, and Raphael Varane. The club is undergoing a transition under manager Carlo Ancelotti, and it will be interesting to see who they add to the roster this summer.

Asensio will have one more game to play for Real Madrid before he bids farewell to the club and its fans. He will face Athletic Bilbao on June 4 in the final round of La Liga.

Somali Forces Kill 30 Al-Shabaab Militants In Airstrike After Attack On UPDF Base

0

Somali security forces, alongside international partners, carried out an airstrike attack in the Lower Shabelle region on yesterday, killing at least 30 al-Shabaab militants.

According to state media, the planned operations targeted four villages within the Kunturwarey district. Military vehicles and heavy weapons were destroyed during the operation.

The government media emphasized that the attack was in response to the group’s assault on a military base manned by African Union forces from Uganda in Bulo Marer, an agricultural town located 110 kilometers south of Mogadishu in the Lower Shabelle region.

The militants utilized multiple explosive devices to infiltrate the base. Neither ATMIS nor the Somali government has provided any casualty figures since the attack on Friday morning.

The African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), consisting of 22,000 troops, has been assisting Somalia’s federal government in its battle against the al-Qaeda-linked armed group since 2022 when it replaced the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Last August, following President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s election victory, an intensive government offensive was launched, resulting in significant gains in diminishing the group’s control over vast territories.

Panic As Passenger Opens Plane’s Door mid Air

0
Asiana Air Plane Door Opened Mid Air
The door of an Asiana Airlines jet opened as it was coming in to land in Daegu, South Korea, on Friday afternoon, leaving wind whipping through the plane’s cabin as terrified passengers gripped their armrests, video of the incident shows.
Asiana Air Plane Door Opened Mid Air

An airline official said a man in his 30s who was sitting at the emergency seat seemed to have opened the door when the aircraft was about 700 feet (213 meters) above the ground and about two to three minutes from landing in the city 150 miles (240 kilometers) south of Seoul.

However, company officials told CNN the plane had landed safely.

Local police said a man had been arrested at Daegu airport on Friday in connection with the incident. He told them he had been under a lot of stress after losing his job recently and had felt suffocated and wanted to get off the plane quickly, Yonhap news agency reported.

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said in a statement Friday that police and the ministry were investigating an individual over violation of aviation law.

Any person who contravenes the Aviation Security Act, which includes passengers operating doors, exits, or equipment inside an aircraft, could be prosecuted and sentenced to up to 10 years in prison, the statement said.

The ministry also said that it had dispatched an aviation safety supervisor to the site to check whether there was an abnormality in aircraft maintenance.

A total of 200 people were on board, including 194 passengers, according to Asiana Airlines.

According to the Daegu Fire Department, 12 people suffered minor injuries from hyperventilation and nine of them have been sent to hospitals in Daegu.

The aircraft was identified on the Flightradar 24 tracking website as an Airbus 321.

The jet was on a flight from Jeju island, off South Korea’s southern coast, to Daegu.

Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas of Airline Ratings described the incident as “very bizarre.”

“Technically, it’s not possible to open those doors in flight,” he told CNN.

Thomas noted that the landing speed of an A321 is about 150 knots (172 mph), meaning winds of that speed are passing the aircraft. The door, behind the wing of the aircraft, opened into that airstream, he said.

“It seems implausible that the door could be opened in the first place and then against the airstream technically impossible, but somehow or another it has happened,” Thomas said.

Asiana Airlines told CNN: “The airplane is automatically set to adjust the pressure of the cabin according to the altitude of the aircraft. When the aircraft is high up in the air, it is impossible to open the door but when the altitude is low and close to landing, the door can be opened.” AFP
