NRM Party in Panic as Bobi Wine Is Listed Among The 100 Most Influential People in The World.

3

Kyaddondo East Legislator, Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert alias Bobi Wine has made it to the #TIME100Next list of the most influential people as one of the 100 rising stars in the world who are shaping their industries and the future.

Here is the full statement written about the firebrand politician who is giving president Museveni sleepless nights.

Ugandan pop star Bobi Wine spent his career singing about social injustice. In 2017, he decided to take things a step further by running for, and winning, a seat in parliament.

Now the 37-year-old singer, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has set his sights higher, announcing in July that he will take on President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled for the past 33 years through a combination of deft politics, questionable election practices and constitutional manipulation. “Eighty percent of our population is under the age of 35,” Wine says. “They deserve a leader who works for the future of Uganda, not for himself.” Wine’s growing popularity amounts to peril.

He has been jailed, beaten and charged with treason—proof, he says, that the President is running scared well in advance of the 2021 election and that change is on the way. —Aryn Baker

Opinion: Uganda’s Roads Are a Health Hazard, Immediate Action Needed

Many Ugandans happily indicate travelling as a hobby on their resumes. However, the current trends of Road Traffic Accidents (RTA’s) convince us to vote “no” to travelling in our country. The only choice we have is to wonder whether we have the right personnel behind Ugandan steering wheels.

We keep seeing motorists drive on pavements that are gazetted for pedestrians, these acts disqualify many of us from even walking along our roads. This coupled with news updates on the numbers of fellow countrymen perishing in RTA’s, officially qualifies travelling not a hobby on Ugandan roads.

When Ojara was travelling to Kampala in April 2014, little did he know that he could be involved in an RTA because the driver was driving over the speed limit and couldn’t prevent a head-on collision. He only gained consciousness while in an orthopedic hospital in Kumi, he incurred costs of up to USh 69million.

Thanks to a Gulu court ruling this year, he is set to receive $35,000 US dollars as compensation for the damages. Despite compensation, Ojara can no longer go to office, he can’t farm his land – let alone bend his knee or twist his ankle. His life now involves having to use crutches to walk with consistent pain as a reminder of the near fatal crash.

The 2018 Uganda Police Force crime report reveals that 29 fellow Ugandans are killed per every 100 crashes or 9 people killed and at least 17 injured on an average day in 2018 – this is supposedly the highest in East Africa. It is despite of the fact that the demise claims 5% of Uganda’s GDP or about $1.2 billion US dollars.

President Museveni’s government probably went to the bush to fight the enemy that was killing Ugandans, unfortunately, the “bazukulu” only read this as history from Mzee’s facebook posts. I am of a view, that this social media era shall never appreciate our governments’ efforts in fighting preventable deaths, simply because no week goes without reading a facebook post involving innocent civilians perishing in a RTA.

For instance, on the eve of one fatal bus accidents along Iganga-Kampala highway, Rebecca posted on Facebook saying “I now understand how precious life is, the lady who passed on was my friend” She added “the driver was moving very fast and over taking every motorist in front of him”

I always wonder, do we have the right people behind the steering wheels? What are the biggest causes of road traffic accidents in Uganda?

Police data shows that careless driving tops with 43% of the deaths, and together with reckless driving and careless pedestrians accounts for 88% of the crashes on Ugandan roads in 2018.

Our president is greatly committed to improving road infrastructure to stimulate economic and social development in the country. However, without safety embedded in this 21st century infrastructure, Uganda is doomed. My view is in line with Dr. Tegegn, the Uganda World Health Organization representative, he claims “road safety is not just a transport problem but an economic, health and social development problem.” It takes encouragement of employee participation in RTAs to develop a safety culture.

Surprisingly, one official at Prestige driving school, speaking on condition of anonymity said, “Our drivers are only taught how to move vehicles, there is nothing I can do since I have to meet a weekly target of clients”. Many of us possessing driving permits agree with this. In fact, the Road Safety Performance Report 2018 aligns with her experience, it says “the formal training that is given at driving schools largely addresses the practical manoeuvring of the vehicles and does not follow the training processes as specified in the national learner driving curriculum.”  This brings me back to my question, are our drivers qualified to be entrusted with lives of Ugandans?

Reckless driving continues to cost innocent Ugandans of their lives. It can have significant social and economic impacts on the individual, family and society. Therefore, having a safety culture at the fingertips of all Ugandan is the only way to go.

Our government must refocus, this time not to fight the enemy in the bush, but the enemy on our roads. Ensuring a road safety culture at everyone’s finger tips could be through; creating massive education campaigns that will ensure behavioral change similar to the HIV campaigns; assessing all driver training schools in the country to ensure they don’t produce half-baked personnel; and strengthening and/or expanding the emergency medical services.

Opinion: Why Africa has a big reason to smile

Africa is largely considered an evincible inferior continent by many; and poor. Most people appreciate the high levels of material poverty that strike the lives of the Africans unfavorably across the continent. Some people may feel unfortunate to live in Africa and others may feel melancholic that they are not residents of such a pitiable land. It is not until such people free their minds and experience the generosity of Africa that they come to appreciate the richness of Africa.

Generosity is one of the key components of Africa’s community life. The generosity of African people is not in monetary value. It is the generosity of the heart that constitutes love as the prime, birthing a packaged nature of kindness, encouragement, happiness, respect and other virtues. Such generosity doesn’t have its roots from privilege but from values to which our African societies have attached much respect. Time is a precision of experience of old encumbered in the warmth of youthfulness. The expressive potent of admiral attributes. To decipher the truthiness of this beautiful utopia basked with a dirt of treachery as prejudiced perception wounds inversely our pride, we are made to believe that alien is greater and glorious.

Children born in such societies pick up these virtues and own them. For example, most African children are extremely willing to share their time playing with others or sharing the smallest pancake .This makes generosity part of their humanity that is ready to share infinitely. A value that loses its gist in the wake of unstable evolution, misplaced needs and preferences that are topped with lost identity.  Who am I? The subconscious analogy devastates the waning of a becoming personality.  To flow with the energies around is like disintegrating to nothingness; becoming an irresolute force that is unidentified.

It is through generosity of the heart that Africans can build strong relationships with both the self and others. It can come to your notice that people of the same African village are related in some way even though not biologically. The valour of expressiveness intertwining with the beauty of an embodied soul. Covering up the expositions of what might not have been seen, and perfecting the likelihood of eternity.

Even foreigners can have this sentiment and attachment.  If you have ever come in Africa, in most cases you must have been given a name. Someone must have told you your clan where you belong. A warm welcome is given despite of race and colour.

It is actually through this generosity of the heart that true happiness and bright smiles are evidenced on African faces despite the many challenges faced by our continent. Such pure happiness is a necessity to everyone and does not stem from materialistic wealth.

The centrality of relationships has made Africa advantageous in terms of happiness. The lack of non-materialistic generosity (which centralises relationships) has caused the western people epidemics of loneliness, anxiety, and at times suicide in spite of their advanced technology and high levels of income. In my thinking if Europeans can also copy at least this style of living, the epidemics can be solved without paying a psychologist.

Opinion: Bobi Wine the Unsung Hero And Hope To Ugandans Next to a Saint

2
Domba Julius

Bobi wine is not only “a king on earth” as claimed by Jamaican singer Mr Vegas, but also an African hero next to a saint in our times to be celebrated forever.

A saint is a trying sinner who never gives up. He improves his life and that of other people. Even though the word has been set apart and largely owned by the Catholic church to refer to those canonized by the Bishop of Rome due to their heroic virtue, it still carries the meaning that ” a saint is a trying sinner”.

On the 1st November 2019, while talking to a crowd of Christians gathered at St Peter’s square, to celebrate the solemnity of All Saints, Pope Francis said,” On the contrary, they (the saints) were people who lived with their feet on the ground, they experienced the daily struggle of existence with its successes and failures. ” Thus, saints live with us.

The canonized saints live in perfection with God only after their earthly struggle. However, the journey to sainthood in perfection, begins with sainthood in imperfection on earth. That is, a sinner stands against the greed and other improprieties of the earth. He gives up his life for the truth and for the sake of other people.

Bobi wine has proved no more less than a saint, he is not far away from the description. He

, whom some thought was only a useless ganja man, has challenged the most elite of our times by coming out to stand on his feet to air out the grievances of the least considered.

Bobi wine is a sinner who acknowledges his sinful nature, transforms his life not only for his own benefit but also for other citizens. He, who was born and raised in Ghetto, a Nazareth where many think nothing good can come out of it, can shake the “mighty”.

Like many saints who give up their lives for the sake of the truth and for other people, so has done Bobi. Challenging an African government is giving up one’s life for the sake of the truth. The life of such a hero inspire us to fight with him.

IGP Ochola Busted For Keeping Silent On Police Brutality

1

The Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola is on the receiving end for keeping mum as his men brutalize Ugandans, over the past few weeks Uganda has suffered a spate of police and military Brutality during the Makerere tuition protests.

The lid was brown off by when the IGP announced the sudden death of Rtd Senior Commissioner of Police Christopher Obache which occurred today on his tweeter account, however replies especially from the netizens busted him for keeping silent on crucial matters when his men brutalized Makerere University students, journalists and the ugly scenes on Jinja that almost claimed Besigye’s life.

However, many tweeps blamed the IGP who has had a good run in the police force for presiding over a brutal police force like the one of his predecessor General Kale Kayihura who was even sanctioned from stepping a foot in the United States over his actions during his 13 year tenure at the helm of Uganda police force.

“Of all the incidences and criminalities happening within Uganda, committed by your officers, this is what can only bring you out? As if you will bring back his soul. Be the IGP of the living not those that have passed on”- a one Ivan Mukoryo tweeted
