Uganda have cruised to their second win on the bounce in the CECAFA U-20 Women’s Championship, hammering Djibouti 13-0 at Fufa Technical Center on Monday and now lead the log with six points.

However, coach Ayubu Khalifa was irked by their wastefulness in front of the goal despite the huge scoreline. Khalifa believes the goal turn over may have been bigger than what his players posted had they utilized all the chances they fashioned.

“It worries me that we failed to score obvious chances,” he said.

“We were supposed to score more goals. I told them to score every chance we create but we shall work on that again before our next game.”

His opposite – Abdoularahim Mohamed Ali of Djbouti gave Uganda U-20 team a thumb up saying through a translator that;

“Uganda is a strong team and that is why they scored a lot of goals”

It took the hosts only seven minutes to unblock the deadlock. Hadijja Nandago opened the flood gates when she noded in a header from close range, Catherine Nagadya scored hers either side of Fauzia Najjemba’s first two goals, then the captain netted the fifth goal for Uganda, her third inside thirty six minutes before Shamira Nalujja converted a penalty to head into the break with a comfortable 6-0 lead.

Najjemba tapped in the seventh goal a few moments after the interval. Shakira Nyinagahirwa caught the goalkeeper off guard from long range to join the scoring bonanza as well, while Nandago completed her brace after the hour mark.

Asia Nakibuuka also got on the score sheet before Najjemba drove home her fifth and sixth goals on the day.

Zaitun Namaganda closed the scoring party two minutes from full-time.

Uganda will next be in action on Wednesday against Eritrea.

Ethiopia and Eritrea renewed their quittances in the ongoing CECAFA U-20 Women’s Championship in a thoroughly entertaining match at Fufa Technical Center.

The opening period looked like ending all square but Ethiopia’s quality shone through in the end to register a resounding 5-0 victory on Monday.

Ridet Assrasanang scored from the spot on the stroke of half time to thrust her team into the lead. Eritrea tired further as the game progressed, allowing in four more goals after the interval.

Bizuayehu Taddesse glanced in a header before Meadin Sehilu widened their advantage. Turist Lema put the game beyond Eritrea’s reach with a fine goal and then Mihret Tessema sealed the win with six minutes to play.

Tanzania wound up match day two but survived a scare to keep themselves with in distance with table leaders Uganda and Ethiopia.

The Bakari Nyundo side came from behind twice to edge Burundi 3-2 in what was an intense contest. It was an event full affair to say the least as Burundi stormed into the lead through Gakima Estella. After the break, Mwanamvua Seif Haruna restored parity for Tanzania from the penalty mark following a handball.

However, Burundi regained the lead immediately thereafter when Nshimiramana Annociatte shot from range. Clara Mvanga levelled matters for Tanzania again in the 80th minute before they rounded the game off through Emiliana Isaya Mbimu yarder with seven minutes remaining on the clock.

The tournament is being played on a round robin system. Uganda sits atop of the chart, Ethiopia and Tanzania follow closely in that order. The trio tally six points individually but the hosts own a superior goal difference of 17.

Uganda’s U-20 women’s national team humbled their neighbors Burundi 5-1 on the opening day of CECAFA U-20 Women’s Championship in Njeru on Saturday.

However, their head coach – Ayub Khalifa has sounded captious saying his team’s performance had some lapses the fat win not withstanding.

“In yesterday’s game (against Burundi), we identified a few mistakes that need rectification, but, we have worked on them during our recovery training,” he said on Sunday.

Uganda Risks Loosing Airport To China Over Loans

Uganda if things fall apart might loose it’s only Entebbe International Airport to China over an airport expansion Loan extended to the Museveni government through the EXIM bank.

According to the finance ministry, Uganda got a loan of over UGX700 billion to expand the International Airport to be able to handle the increasing traffic.

However, members of parliament on the COSASE committee led by NUP’s Joel Ssenyonyi were left in shock when the minister Matia Kasaija revealed that the loan agreements particularly the one of expanding the Entebbe Airport had a lot of conditions that could lead to China ceasing the airport like it has done in other countries.

For example, the loan agreement was made in Chinese laws and everything incase of default by the Museveni government was to be handled in China not in Uganda.

Another issue that raised concern is that government was made to open up an account where they could deposit the loan collateral in Stanbic bank and China’s EXIM bank over sees the transactions of that account, meaning Uganda has no say but only to pay at all costs or risk loosing the airport.

This shocking revelation comes at a time when Uganda’s debt burden sits at over UGX60 trillion though Museveni’s government insists Ugandans are still able to pay that money.

It was still in the same committee that State Minister for Finance and Planning Hon Amos Lugoloobi and PS Ramathan Ggoobi revealed government borrowed over UGX30 trillion but this money continues to be dormant on government accounts without going to the intended purpose of borrowing it yet the country continues to pay interests for that money in every financial year.

China has risen to be Africa’s biggest borrower and some countries like Zambia and Sri Lanka have fallen prey of China’s expansionism tricks to take over country property to recover loans.

For example Beijing took over Sri Lanka’s port to recover money she lent Sri Lanka, China also took over Zambia’s copper mining industry and key government entitites to recover money she lent to Zambia.

As of 2021, China through it’s subsidiary state owned China Harbor Construction Company took over Sri Lanka’s port and would run it for 18 years to recover the money through the activities and profits it makes then hand it over to Sri Lanka later.

There has also been growing fears that Kenya too risks loosing her busiest Mombasa port over a Chinese loan particularly the one that financed Kenya’s standard gauge rail way (SGR).

Uganda has been on a borrowing spree over the years to finance different projects especially Roads construction, Hydro Electric dams but a lot of money in trillions according to the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has been lost due to corruption.

We wait to see what lies ahead as Uganda owes alot of money to many countries, International agencies like International Monetary Fund (IMF), World bank, African development bank among others.

However, minister for finance Kasaija accepted that indeed government gets into loans with such conditions that risk the countries treasured property but not at any time will money lenders cease Uganda’s property but only to work hard and clear the loans.

Liverpool Humbles Manchester United at Home as Unstoppable Salah Scores Hattrick

0

Liverpool inflicted a historic hammering on Manchester United as Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clinging to his job.

For the first time in Premier League history, United trailed 4-0 at half-time and failed to score in a hopelessly one-sided contest. The Red Devils have now taken a run of one point from a possible 12 in the league.

Naby Keita started the rout before Diogo Jota doubled Liverpool’s lead inside 15 minutes. Salah then took centre stage to take his tally for the season to 15 goals in 12 appearances and become the top-scoring African player in Premier League history in the process.

To round off a miserable day for United, Paul Pogba lasted less than 15 minutes as a second-half substitute as he was shown a straight red card for a reckless lunge that forced Keita to leave the pitch on a stretcher.

Liverpool’s first victory in front of a crowd at Old Trafford under Jurgen Klopp moves them back above Manchester City into second, just a point behind leaders Chelsea. By contrast, United’s hopes of a first league title since 2013 already look over as they remain eight points off the leaders.

That gap is likely to grow in the coming weeks with Tottenham and City to come in the next fortnight before an international break. Whether Solskjaer will still be in charge come November is now in serious doubt as he has completely failed to form a balanced team from a talented collection of star players.

The Norwegian will wonder what might have been had Bruno Fernandes not fired over a glorious chance to open the scoring on three minutes. But soon the defensive cracks that have blighted United’s season began to appear.

Salah teed up Keita to open the floodgates after just five minutes with a composed low finish past David de Gea. United came from 2-0 down at the break to beat Atalanta 3-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

But former midfielder Paul Scholes’ warning after that match that Liverpool would be 4-0 up in 45 minutes if handed the same space to attack into came to fruition. Jota justified his selection ahead of Sadio Mane as he stretched to turn in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross to double Liverpool’s advantage.

Salah has now scored in 10 consecutive games and overtook Didier Drogba with his 105th Premier League goal when the Egyptian turned home Keita’s cut-back with the United defence all at sea.

Cristiano Ronaldo was lucky to avoid a red card as United’s frustrations bubbled over in first-half stoppage time when he was booked for lashing out at Curtis Jones in a sign of what was to come as the home side lost their discipline.

Liverpool inflicted further punishment before the break when Salah smashed home his 14th goal in 12 games this season at De Gea’s near post. Salah then completed his hat-trick with another cool finish five minutes into the second-half after Jordan Henderson’s pass dissected the United defence once more.

Ronaldo thought he had pulled a goal back only for a VAR review to catch him in an offside position. Another VAR check saw the end of Pogba’s brief cameo for a horrendous studs-up challenge on Keita that forced the Guinean off.

Solskjaer sacrificed Fernandes and Marcus Rashford to try and stop the bleeding as Old Trafford emptied during the final half hour. De Gea ensured Liverpool failed to match their record margin of victory against United with an incredible save from Alexander-Arnold’s drive.

However, that did not subdue the mood among the travelling fans as they mockingly chanted for Solskjaer to remain in his job.

As the country is yet to come to terms that a terror attack happened in Kampala last evening at Digida pork joint in Kawempe leaving at least two dead and several injured, an eye witness has recounted the events.

President Museveni has since issued a statement through his social media handles and has called for calm as his security struggles to bring the perpetrators to book.

In a video trending on social media by BBS Tv, a yet to be identified woman narrates the events that led to the blast. She claims two men came in at the bar and it was at full capacity and seats were all occupied and they ordered for beer.

According to the woman in the video, one of the men was putting on a people power shirt and he called her ordering for drinks [two buckets of Nile special], wasn’t settled and she claims she had ever seen him before when he had visited the same bar.

She served them only to come back demanding for the money only to find they had disappeared. After few minutes some one brought a bottle in a black kaveera and placed it under the table. The woman narrates several people saw it including her boss and it exploded when the men had disappeared.

Her revelations have since caused mixed reactions on how several atrocities are hurriedly politicized the recent one being the bijambiya gangs which were linked to Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform and two legislators Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana are in Kigo prison for allegedly murdering several people in Masaka.

Police is set to address the nation regarding the incident in a press briefing at 2pm this afternoon to answer questions that are lingering in the minds of Ugandans on how the bar was operating when president haven’t yet opened them, how the same was happening pas curfew hours and how the UK issued terror threats and indeed it has happened.

Liberian President
Liberian boy who collected and returned $ 50,000 named “integrity ambassador”.

After hearing media reports that a teenager returned $50,000 to a business woman who lost the money on her way to Guinea to do business, President of Liberia George Weah has wholesomely rewarded the boy with lots of goodies in his statement.

Below Is the full statement from President George Weah

  1. E Dr. George M Weah President of the Republic of Liberia letter to Emmanuel!!

Dear Emmanuel:

I have heard in the media about an extraordinary act of honesty on your part.

It is reported that you recently found Fifty Thousand (US$50,000) United States Dollars and approximately One Hundred Thousand (LD100,000) Liberian Dollars which had been lost by a Liberian businesswoman who was passing through Nimba on her way to Guinea to purchase goods for her business, and that when she announced her loss on the local radio station and made an appeal to the public for the money to be returned, you willingly located her and gladly returned her money to her intact.

I am very proud of you for this exceptional sense of morality and good citizenship, and I hope that this will serve as an inspiration to all of our citizens, especially to our youth. You are a prime example of what the Bible teaches us in Proverbs 22:1, that a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.

This honest behavior on your part is even more amazing when seen against the backdrop of your personal circumstances.  I am made to understand that you are in the 7th grade with no money to continue your education; that you have no means of income except to occasionally borrow a motorbike from one of your friends when he is off-duty in order to earn a few dollars to sustain yourself.

You are a Champion, Emmanuel, and we are all very proud of you.  Although It is often said that virtue is its own reward, I believe that you should be additionally rewarded for this virtuous act, which brought miraculous rescue and relief to a hardworking businesswoman.

Accordingly, I want to inform you that at the next national investiture ceremony, you will be recognized and honored with one of Liberia’s highest Orders of Distinction for your honesty.  Additionally, I am hereby presenting you, herewith enclosed, an amount of Ten Thousand (US$10,000.00) United States Dollars, as well as two (2) brand-new motorcycles for you to improve your circumstances and sustain yourself financially.

Finally, and more importantly, I am offering you a scholarship for you to attend any school of your choice in Liberia, all the way to the level of a Master’s Degree.  This scholarship is personal from me and my family, and will be valid whether or not I am President of Liberia.

Please accept my personal congratulations.

Sincerely,

George Manneh Weah
