After being denied access to the said safe houses that house torture chambers where human rights violations take place, the furious legislators who sit on the Human rights committee invited the Uganda Human rights commission (UHRC) boss and his team and the Internal Security Organization (ISO) chief Col Kaka Bagyenda for questioning.

MPs on have however criticized the Uganda Human Rights Commission led by Chairperson Med Kaggwa, for what they say is an apathetic response to human rights violations. MP Raphael Magyezi said Parliament should hold the Commission to account for “abetting crime”.

MPs Blocked At The Kyengera Safe House

Legislators including Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert, Mityana’s Municipality Francis Zaake, Raphael Magyezi, Bwino Kyakulaga and Simeo Nsubuga eloquently said the UHRC is toothless because it’s always reluctant on matters of human rights violations in the country.

Yesterday Tuesday 10th September was dominated with headlines of legislators attempting to visit the said safe houses which are believed to be housing torture chambers where people are caged to taste the valor of the Internal Security Organization (ISO).

However as earlier warned by the defence minister General Elly Tumwine that no one legislator will ever step a foot in any of the safe houses, indeed it came to pass as they were bounced back from all the four safe houses in Kampala in areas of Kyengera, Nakasero and other places.

The MPs were led by the chairperson of the Human rights committee and Buvuma women Mp, Hon Jennifer Egungu and other prominent politicians like Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu, Latif Sebagala of Kawempe North and Mityana municipality MP Francis Zaake.

In a shocking revelation by motor mouthed veteran journalist Andrew Mweda, one of said safe houses belongs to his uncle whom he didn’t name in a tweet.

“Yesterday Bobi Wine led a group of MPs & journalists to my uncle’s home in Kabowa claiming it is a safe house. I know govt of Uganda has safe houses where security forces torture people but my uncles is not one of them. He lives in it. Can these politicians get facts right?”- tweeted Andrew Mwenda

Robert Mugabe

Former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe died last Friday at the age of 95 at a Singaporean hospital on Friday. Since then, mixed tributes have been pouring in from around the world for the fallen long serving president in Zimbabwean history.

A fearless leader, Mugabe led the country to liberation and away from white rule in 1980 after a fierce war against Rhodesian prime minister Ian smith’s forces.

Mugabe’s body is flown back today to the divided Zimbabwe, he recently asked to be buried in his home village of Kutama in Mashonaland west and not in the hero’s acre in the capital Harare, though other sources suggest he will be buried at Hill top shrines.

In quite a shocking revelation is that he will be buried on Sunday which is president Mnangagwa’s 75th Birth day and it’s revealed while approaching his last days, Mugabe gave instructions that Mnangagwa should never attend his burial.

However ED president Emmerson Mnangagwa said he can’t celebrate his own birth day due to the death of Zimbabwean founding president RG Mugabe and will give him a special send off on his birth day.

Government Clears Export Of Sugar Cane To Kenya

President Yoweri Museveni has said that the Government of Uganda has lifted the ban on the export of raw sugarcane to Kenya for a period of only three months effective next week. The move, he said, aims at allowing Ugandan farmers sell the surplus sugarcane that is not consumed locally.

“Mature sugarcane that doesn’t have ready buyers from local millers, should be exported,” he said.

The decision to export sugarcane was reached  during a meeting chaired by President Museveni at State House, Entebbe that brought together sugar millers and sugarcane farmers from Busoga Sub-Region.

Ugandan farmers, for the last few months, have grown too much sugarcane resulting in a surplus supply on the local market in Uganda. The decision to lift the ban will see Uganda export raw sugarcane to allow Kenya-based factories that are willing, to buy sugarcane from Uganda.

The meeting emphasized and agreed that only mature sugarcane should be exported adding that an Agricultural Officer should determine sugarcane maturity and its fitness for export.

The meeting also resolved that if a farmer had credit with a miller, the miller is obliged to buy all the mature sugarcane within the agreed contract period. If not, the miller should compensate the farmer for the loss.

President Museveni directed that all bond warehouses should be banned with immediate effect in order to harmonize the price of sugar and root for the expansion and growth of the sugar industry.

The President also asked sugar millers and farmers to work together adding that the two players need each other in order to ensure the survival of the sugar industry.

He, however, cautioned sugarcane farmers about the low returns from sugarcane production saying that the venture will not get them out of poverty mostly those who have small pieces of land. He, therefore, called on them to diversify their production ventures and concentrate more on crops like coffee, poultry, piggery and fish farming, among other enterprises that can yield good income for their homesteads.

Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Minister, Hon, Amelia Kyambadde, said her Ministry will allow Uganda sugarcane farmers to export excess sugarcane to Kenya for only 3 months.

She revealed that her Ministry is doing all that is possible to secure licences for farmers to sell their raw sugarcane to avert incurring losses.

She strongly advised sugarcane farmers to form a consortium in transportation of their sugarcane to ensure realization of tangible benefits.

President Museveni and his counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, met on the sidelines of the 8th TICAD Conference in Japan last month and discussed issues related to the sugar business in their neighbouring countries. They agreed to fast track the process of enabling traders in Uganda and Kenya to access each other’s markets with ease.

MP Judith Babirye Abandons Parliament Job, Settles For Music

Buikwe Woman MP Judith Babirye is one of the troubled MPs after Minister Nantaba who fled the country and settled in Canada this year 2019. The troubled legislator exiled herself in the US where she seems to be having good time.

The Buli Uzziah hit maker early last year got engaged in an office romance with her fellow MP Hon. Paul Musoke Ssebulime Ssalongo who she married in a high level lavish wedding held at a swanky reception in Kampala.

News made rounds early this year that their marriage had hit a dead end with issues stemming from adultery, death threats among others that prompted Judith Babirye to flee the country to the US though rumors had it that she had gone to deliver a baby and called it quits with Paul Musoke.

Since the old adage says that “A new broom sweeps but an old broom knows all the corners”, MP Musoke made a switch back to his long time wife Nalongo Lukia who he has 3 kids, he was re-introduced and had his sins forgiven.

Judith Babirye seemed not bothered by the developments and dropped a brand new song titled Buli Uzziah Affe which left her fans asking whom exactly she was referring to in her song.

She’s getting back to the music scene though from a foreign land and she’s set to release another new song in a space of just one month titled OMWOYO tomorrow Wednesday.
