A promising collaborative engagement on plant nutrition and health management took place today at the Uganda Industrial Research Institute officiated by the State Minister of Primary Health Care Hon. Margaret Muhanga. The meeting was organized by a Voluntary Faith Based National organization Cause Effect Initiative Limited under it’s chapter Nature Heals.

At the meeting Hon. Muhanga emphasized the relevance of plants in human health and their ability to boost health with minimal side effects. She cited cases where people who applied good nutrition were able to have a strong immunity.

Corroborating her views were Dr. Nambatya Grace of the Ministry of Health Natural Chemotherapeutic Research Institute who shared insights in the initiatives the Institute had done to investigate plant benefits as well as train citizens in partaking of this.

Hajj Jamil Lutakome also shared about how Uganda had a rich plant heritage that would solve a number of health challenges if utilised

Dr. Jackie Lugemwa of the Uganda Virus Research Institute shared similar view also giving a close up on what the Institute was doing to match plant benefits to scientific research and health.

From the Uganda Industrial Research Institute three experts shared about their experiences in product development and laboratory engagement regarding boosting the plant value chain.

HOW FAR WILL THESE PEOPLE GO?: Trade Ministry Seeks To UGX2.5Bn To Buy New Posh Cars For It’s Ministers

0

PSST Ramathan Ggoobi has come under immense pressure to immediately authorize the spending of Ugx2.4bn to facilitate the purchasing of brand new SUV vehicles for the ministry of trade ministers. It has four ministers such as Fred Guume Ngobi, Francis Mwebesa, David Bahati and Lt. Gen William Mbadi.

The need for the new vehicles came as a result of one of the ministers who some weeks back crashed his official vehicle which is now written off. The minister crashed the vehicle by knocking a herd of cattle as he rushed to go and disrupt a campaign event for one of his opponents in his constituency.

The minister now has no car and because he is powerful and well connected in government he ordered the accounting officer to buy four vehicles so that it doesn’t seem like he is the only one who is extravagant and burdening the taxpayer at trade. The same minister has been all over the place pressurizing Ggoobi to authorize the expenditure, something which has angered many technocrats at the finance ministry.

Each of the four cars will cost not less than 600m which brings the total to more than Ugx2.4bn altogether. This will be scandalous because only last year Parliament was investigating the same trade ministry for buying expensive cars for ministers yet government is broke and not in mood to buy new cars.

The same minister has threatened to frame and cause arrest of trade ministry technocrats who dare oppose the proposed purchase of the 4 cars. He needs a new car badly because things aren’t very good for him in the constituency where his opponent is working day and night to retire him in public interest.

The same minister is worried because two of his tribemates who used to fund his campaigns died one in an accident and another a money lender in a lodge near Kyambogo university where he was exhausted by a young campus gal.

REVEALED: Why Ugandans Are Experiencing Slow Internet Speeds

0

For the last two hours, Ugandans and Kenyans have reported slow internet speeds amidst the Finance Bill protests in Kenya which have today reached the climax with protesters over powering police, making their way to parliament which resulted in destruction of property.

According to reports the number of those shot dead by police hasn’t been revealed yet but the situation is still in tense in the neighboring Kenya.

According to Live Internet Monitors, slow internet speeds have affected Uganda, Kenya and Burundi. In Uganda those using MTN have greatly experienced the slow speeds and in Kenya those using Safaricom have experienced the same.

According to a statement released by Safaricom less than an hour ago, the outage is as a result of a cut on two Undersea cables that supply internet to Kenya and beyond. But MTN in Uganda remains silent despite slow internet concerns raised by it’s customers.

Reports had earlier indicated that the government of Kenya had plans to switch off the internet ahead of today’s ill-fated protests but the regulator Communications Authority of Kenya refuted the claims saying government has no such plans.
