TOP STORY: Sigh Of Relief As Famous Kampala Car Dealer Fahad Ssegujja Is Picked Like Chicken Thief

0

This Thursday morning, a number of distressed car buyers thronged Jinja Road Police Station to have a look of the much-feared Kampala car dealer who had just been apprehended by the no-nonsense detectives. Fahad Ssegujja, a flashy car dealer, was apprehended after several complaints were lodged against him at Police, sparking off criminal investigations.

A Kampala law firm has since taken up the matter offering to have Fahad Ssegujja prosecuted and cracked up on behalf of crest-fallen victims who the law firm says are many. And that the monies involved are colossal which is why Police and other security agencies have to take the Ssegujja matter more seriously than would ordinarily have been the case.

The lawyers’ brief on Ssegujja indicates that some of his victims, who have been duped to part with colossal sums of money without ever getting to enjoy the posh cars they have paid for, include: Raymond Ntulume who paid Shs115m on one occasion and Shs45m on another but never got the BMW X5 and BMW X3; Jeremy Mpalampa; Ivan Lule; Gloria Ssali and Anthony Katusiime among others.

In each case, the buyers entered into barter arrangements whereby you surrender your current car and then top up with cash to get something bigger, better and more powerful. In the case of Raymond Ntulume, Shs115m was paid and the 2014 BMW X5 model (black in color) was handed over to him but without the relevant documentation. This became the ground upon which the vehicle was subsequently taken away from him, under very humiliating circumstances.

Fahad Ssegujja, who luxuriously drives around town in a white range rover with personalised number plate FAHAD, initially assured him that the logobook was being processed and asked him to give his Daichi Motors Ltd car bond (based in Banda) a few days. The transaction took place in March this year and after sometime, Fahad Ssegujja became incommunicado leaving Raymond Ntulume confused for what to do.

Six months later, in September, as he enjoyed what he was sure was his vehicle, Raymond Ntulume was one morning intercepted by Court Bailiffs who demanded that he surrenders the BMW X5 (UBQ 322G) on grounds that the six months period that had been given to him to pay up the Shs53m balance had elapsed.

In total disbelief, Ntulume (after failing to access Ssegujja) reported a case (SD Ref:14/02/10/2024) at Muyenga Police Station against Fahad Ssegujja. It was indicated by Bailiffs to Ntulume that the balance of Shs53m was due to a company called Card Guru Ltd, which he was hearing about for the first time. The same Ntulume was to separately suffer almost the same fate shortly after in relation to BMW X3 (UBN 015N gold in color model 2012) for which he had paid Shs45m last May. He returned to the same Muyenga Police and reported another case, SD Ref 15/02/10/2024 against the same Fahad Ssegujja.

Police sources explain that at some point, Ssegujja offered to pay Shs30m for Ntulume’s 2006 model Sedan Lexus (white in color) registration number UBG 126B but still the deal went sour after Mr. Ssegujja didn’t keep his word.

The other case that Police is struggling to investigate against the same Ssegujja relates to a one Mr. Jeremy Mpalampa who paid Shs100m for the BMW X6 (white in color) which he was unable to enjoy yet he parted with the money. This is being investigated under Kabalagala Police’s SD Ref 82/07/09/2024. The transaction took place on 31st March this very year.

Mpalampa was to pay Shs30m besides parting with his Black Volkswagen Touareg (UBM 174S) which had been valued at Shs75m. The Shs30m was transferred to Fahad Ssegujja’s Stanbic Bank account No. 9030021983062.

On failing to receive the relevant documentation from the BMW X6 from Ssegujja, Mpalampa demanded for the return of his Shs30m and the Touareg but all in vain. Police investigators were recently able to trace Mpalampa’s Touareg in Mityana where it now belonged to a one John Kintu who had innocently bought and took custody of the same.

Closely working with CID officers who were dispatched from Kabalagala Police Division, Mityana Divisional Police on 7th October tried but failed to impound the vehicle from the new Mityana-based owner. The Police returned to their headquarters empty-handed even when they had all the relevant paperwork.

This inability by Police to assert themselves has caused great anxiety among other car buyers who are aggrieved against the same Fahad Ssegujja as they currently don’t know who to report to.

There is also another case of Ivan Lule who was unable too get access to and permanently enjoy his 2013 Mercedes Benz M-Class model (white in color & Regn No. UBK 306L) even after parting with his hard-earned Shs95m on 27th March 2024.

Because he hadn’t yet managed to get the logbook from Ssegujja, the ill-fated Ivan Lule had the vehicle forcefully grabbed from him by court bailiffs who demanded that he pays up the remaining balance of Shs15m to a company called Mighty Rides Ltd, which he says he was hearing about for the first time (just like the Shs15m he was being required to pay).

He only enjoyed the Mercedes Benz M-Class for just 6 months. He is now agonising and doubts anyone in government or security will ever have guts to crack the whip on Fahad Ssegujja, who clearly has become a larger than life figure.

As for Gloria Ssali, she parted with Shs60m in return for a Toyota Rav4 Vanguard (UBP 262M) which she wasn’t able to comfortably enjoy due to lack of logbook and other relevant documentation. The vehicle was never transferred into her names even after she had parted with her hard earned Shs60m on top of surrendering her Toyota Rav4 UAY 727C which was valued at Shs40m at the time the transaction was executed with Fahad Ssegujja.

As she left for work one morning, Bailiffs menacingly intercepted Gloria Ssali at her gate and forcefully took away the car. She was required to pay the balance or produce its logbook and this resulted into Gloria Ssali being crudely deprived of what friends had for months considered to be her car. She tried calling Fahad Ssegujja who admitted receiving her money but that wasn’t enough to get the Bailiffs back off.

And finally is the case of Anthony Katusiime who parted with Shs80m on 24th July 2023 and even surrendered his Nissan Murano UBM 556G (valued at Shs40m) but still couldn’t permanently own the black Infinity car UBL 840K which Fahad Ssegujja is supposed to have sold to him.

There was also another transaction between these two gentlemen regarding the Volkswagen Touareg (blue UBN 956X) which too soured and decame disputed even after a payment of Shs39.5m had been made by Katusiime via mobile money and bank transfers. In the end, Bailiffs attacked Katusiime and deprived him of the “my car” status he had long established himself into.

In writing to the higher authorities in Police, the prominent Kampala law firm believes this is the only way to enforce justice for the victims, many of whom are quietly agonizing for fear of the resultant scandalous publicity which might result into them losing jobs or getting problems at their respective work places should media stories be written dragging in or making reference to the good names of their respective employers.

The lawyers want the IGP to work with the CID Director to have the conduct of car selling and buying business by Fahad International Ltd comprehensively inquired into in order to shield Ugandan car buyers against subsequent victimization.

Ugandan Witchdoctor Burns Down Shrine After Winning 200 million From Sports Betting

0

A Ugandan witchdoctor has destroyed his shrine after winning over 200 million from Uganda Bettors Association fixed games.

Explaining his reasons, the overjoyed witchdoctor revealed that the lottery was a vision from his gods and a quick way to get him out of poverty as he has been suffering.

He further revealed that he opened up the shrine as a source of income and not through spiritual powers.

“I must admit I opened this shrine due to greed but not spiritual powers. I saw how several witchdoctors make money by having a deception language and making false prophecies to attract more,” he opened up.

He stated that operating a shrine without the calling became so challenging leading to sleepless nights. Burdened with guilt, the witchdoctor chose to close it down and look for other means of earning money.

“As time went on, I realized this was not right; I started having sleepless nights and I would always have weird dreams.

“Before I opened this shrine, everything was normal on my side. Even without money, I did not have any strange dreams. So I decided to abolish this and look for other ways of making money” he said.

“One day, a notification popped up on my phone of how a security guard won over 300 million from Uganda bettors association, I read the story and I was convinced, I went to their website, after reading through, I contacted them and I was directed on how to pay the subscription, after paying, I was told to wait since games were not available that day, they contacted me that games were ready, I told them to stake for me, I sent them my stake and they shared with me the ticket after staking,” he narrated.

“I tracked the games and saw that all the options won, I shared my bank details and money arrived after 3 days, I burnt the entire shrine.”

Nebbi Small-Scale Farmers Reaping Big From Indigenous Crops After Gaining Skills From Caritas

ALEX PITHUA

Twenty-five groups of small-scale farmers who are venturing in organic farming in Erusi and Ndhew sub-counties, Nebbi district are reaping big after acquiring advanced skills from Caritas Nebbi Catholic Diocese.

The twenty-five groups apparently have 750 farmers spread in the two sub-counties since 2022.

They are actively engaging in growing traditional crops such as beans, Groundnuts, Irish potatoes, bananas, sweet potatoes, Coffee and diversifying into poultry farming and piggery among others.

The project code named “Food and Economic Security” is focused on empowering small-scale farmers on organic farming and agro-ecology with support from “Bread for the World” based in Germany.

Speaking to these farmers last week during the exhibitions and training on agro-ecology held at both Ndhew and Erusi sub-counties, the farmers explained that they have realized bumper harvests and promising returns per season as a result of Caritas intervention in this community.

Cikawun Sakina, a farmer from Mambi village, Pajur parish Erusi sub-county observed that they are able to apply best agronomic practices such as early soil preparation, early planting, raw planting and proper spacing and applying local concoction as pesticides to kill the pests which has enabled them to get high quality yields.

“Since Caritas came in handy for us we benefited a lot and now we are taking children to school and our income has improved because we are empowered with seed capital and better training.” Cikawun

Bill Clinton Mangala, group leader of Dikiri Enetego group, Atido village, Padolo parish, Erusi sub-county implore that they embrace terraces in their gardens to control soil erosion and provide moisture respectively for crops since the area is a steep slope gradient.

“This Caritas brought to us knowledge and love for growing our traditional crops as our forefathers used to practice. But it’s a modern style of farming which brings income for us.” Mangala recounted to our reporter during the exhibitions at Erusi Sub-county.

Yasin Yayah, a group leader of Thwulo Cwiny group in Pacaka Parish, Erusi sub-county said they make organic pesticides (concoctions) from available plants in the community for spraying crops and eventually use the residue as manure in various gardens.

Yasin adds that Caritas took them to studies and exposure visits in Adraa Agricultural College in Madi Okollo district, Shida Nakazi farming Centre in Zombo district and St. Jude Family project in Masaka City Central Uganda.

“Caritas took me for different training, I used to think farmers who reap big money apply charms from traditionalists and magic, even now locally here if other farmers reach our garden they say we are using charms and magic. But it’s not true.” Yasin explained

Wilfred Obedgui, another beneficiary from Nziri West youth group, Nziri West village, Pacaka Parish says Caritas gave them a new digital weighing scale, packing bags and that they have started a local seed business.

“We are able to supply good quality seeds for planting, I call upon farmers to come and buy from us.” Obedgiu

Ronald Oloya Okweda, Agricultural Officer Ndew sub county confirms this development adding that they have realized much boost in production in the two sub-counties with the intervention of Caritas.

Okweda said the project in the first year has distributed bean seeds to different groups which are doing collective marketing, adding that a group called “Nen Bor” has acquired poultry farms, piggery at household level and group level.

“We have worked with Caritas for three years under Agro-ecology which has improved farmers’ growing skill on new crops and improved on the coffee after the exposure visit in Masaka.” Okweda

Moreen Wilembe, Caritas project officer for Erusi sub-county revealed that they brought on board and trained 300 farmers in Ndew and 450 farmers in Erusi. Wilembe told the beneficiaries to continue working under their different groups and transfer the knowledge to other farmers in the community.

“We have been in the field with these farmers. They are able to apply all the skills locally here, I urged them to continue when the project ends and they should transfer the knowledge to other farmers”-says Wilembe

TOTAL CLEANSING: Staff Protest Extravagant Spending As New KCCA Executive Director Throws Away Kisaka-Era Office Furniture, Replacing It With New One

0

The acting KCCA executive director Frank Russa Nyakana has started on high note by literally cleansing the ED office where his predecessor Dorothy Kisaka used to sit on the 1st floor of city hall.

Russa was never on good terms with Kisaka because of rumours that he was being favored and prepared by certain powerful people in the country to take over from her.

On the first day, Russa got rid of the office staff who were working for Kisaka and brought in his own team led by Prossy Nakate. She’s is already determined to cause change and turn everything upside down inside the ED office.

Sources say that even the throwing away of furniture which was still new in the ED’s office, was advised by Nakate who wants to revenge on workmates like Annet Akom who have been mistreating her under Kisaka and Luyimbazi.

Some KCCA workers are now described as orphaned or widowed because of the exit of the three top bosses who were their protectors and guarantors.

KCCA workers are scared that Nakate, who has a lot of influence on Russa because she has been his chief of staff in the directorate of legal, is going to make sure those who didn’t treat her well in the past like Akom the supervisor suffer terrible revenge.

This same situation happened during the days of Andrew Kitaka who was promoted to become acting ED after Musisi left. Kitaka had been director engineering and Nakate came along as his chief of staff. Russa now is busy in the field with waste management, leaving Nakate to run the show in the ED office.

Those Kitaka days female KCCA engineers suffered a lot because Nakate was always protecting Kitaka from seeing them yet had official matters to discuss. Kitaka’s own wife doctor Sabrina had to intervene for the shield Nakate had put around Eng Kitaka to be relaxed.

Time came when enemies came together and reported to public service commission that Nakate wasn’t even qualified to be the chief of staff in the director’s office because she didn’t study administration at the university but library studies.

Public service directed Musisi to transfer her to the library or fire her totally. When she was transferred, Nakate refused to sit in the library and started working from her car in the parking and this went on for months.

When Musisi left KCCA and Kitaka was made acting ED, Nakate became powerful again and continued blocking female KCCA engineers from meeting Kitaka to discuss work related matters. This caused trouble and some of the mistakes Kitaka made are blamed on the bad advice he kept getting from Nakate.

She is now back very powerful under Russa and staff fear that Russa is going to be led into making mistakes, starting with the unnecessary purchase of furniture to replace the one for Kisaka which was still new and excellent.

Prossy Nakate

When public service became tough and stuck to their guns that she gets fired from KCCA for insubordination and lack of qualifications to serve as an administrative staff, Nakate (who lives in Mbuya and one time clashed with physical planning director Anita Kwarisima) blackmailed them by exposing the fact that there are many other KCCA workers at city hall who similarly didn’t have qualifications for the jobs they were holding.

Administrative officer Brenda Tusubira was given as an example and public service reversed its appointment and removed her from her position because of pressure from Nakate. The public service bosses then backed off and left Nakate to do her job.

When he was the director human resource at KCCA even Lule used to fear Nakate because he knew she was powerful especially under Kitaka and nobody fought her and didn’t end badly.

Workers inside city hall are now scared that with Nakate heading the administration in the ED’s office, it’s going to be very hard to access Russa. She has created a strong relationship with him exactly like was the case under Kitaka who was blocked from good advice and information from other managers at KCCA.

Over 400 Patients Operated In a Single Day At Ankole Surgical Camp

0

Surgeons performing lifesaving operation at one of the MRRH operating theater on Tuesday.

More than 400 patients have undergone successful surgeries on the first day of the Ankole Surgical Camp, according to Halson Kagure, Mbarara Referral Hospital’s Public Relations Officer.

The camp, which commenced on September 23, has attracted patients from across the region, with hundreds more awaiting attention.

Kagure noted that many patients have been sent to the hospital’s surgical ward for post-operative monitoring, while others have been discharged. Earlier in the day, some patients expressed concerns over long waiting hours, prompting intervention from local politicians.

The hospital spokesman further Kagure clarified that the hospital had expected to complete patient assessments by Sunday but was overwhelmed by the influx of patients on the first day.

Prof. Dan Kisitu, Head of Surgery at Mbarara University and Mbarara Referral Hospital, revealed that surgeons have worked tirelessly, day and night, attending to various cases, including urology, brain, plastic reconstruction, and orthopedic surgeries.

Despite the overwhelming numbers, Prof. Kisitu assured that all booked surgeries will be completed by September 28. Any missed cases will be addressed through special arrangements.

Kagure urged the public to remain calm as healthcare workers work diligently to ensure everyone receives necessary care. The Ankole Surgical Camp is sponsored by the Ministry of Health, Association of Surgeons of Uganda, and Ankole members of Parliamentarians.

Muhoozi’s Sudden Loyalty: Genuine Or Strategic?

0
Bazel Odeke
By Odeke Bazel
As the shadows of authoritarianism lengthen across Uganda’s landscape, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s shocking announcement casts a dark spell of inevitability. By pledging allegiance to his father, President Yoweri Museveni, and relinquishing his own presidential ambitions, Muhoozi sets in motion a chain of events that threatens to seal Uganda’s fate.
This dramatic shift raises fundamental questions about Muhoozi’s motivations. His change of heart may be attributed to family dynamics, political calculations, and pressure from the NRM. The move secures Muhoozi’s position within the party and buys time for Museveni to consolidate power. Muhoozi’s loyalty is as surprising as a Kampala traffic jam.
Muhoozi’s statement on corruption pressures Museveni to take action, potentially impeding Rwabogo’s ambition and securing his own position within the NRM. By highlighting corruption, Muhoozi deflects attention from his own controversies while bolstering his reputation as a champion of good governance.
This strategic move may also signal a shift in Muhoozi’s strategy to appeal to Uganda’s increasingly disillusioned youth, who demand accountability and reform.
The implications of Muhoozi’s endorsement are far-reaching. Multiparty democracy principles are undermined, exacerbating concerns about Uganda’s democratic trajectory. With over 33 registered political parties, opposition forces face significant marginalization. The Electoral Commission’s effectiveness remains questionable, appointed as it is by the president. Proposed electoral reforms have raised concerns about entrenching the NRM’s grip on power.
Uganda’s politics resembles a perilous boda boda ride, full of unpredictable turns. The electoral landscape mirrors regional trends, where authoritarian regimes maintain power through manipulated democratic processes. Genuine reforms are needed to ensure a level playing field, transparent voting processes, and accountability. Uganda’s democratic future hinges on free and fair elections, which remains a thin thread
Muhoozi’s assertion that no civilian will rule Uganda after Museveni raises profound concerns about military dominance. This declaration undermines civilian governance and the rule of law, potentially paving the way for military intervention in politics.
As the delicate balance of power teeters on the brink, the very fabric of Ugandan society is threatened, leaving the Great Lakes region vulnerable to destabilization. Muhoozi’s move adds more pepper to already spicy matooke, intensifying tensions. Uganda’s military must remain apolitical.
The writing is on the wall: Muhoozi’s loyalty is the final nail in the coffin of Uganda’s faltering democracy. As the last vestiges of freedom fade, the nation stands at the precipice, gazing into the abyss of authoritarianism. The once-vibrant dream of self-determination now withers, suffocated by the crushing weight of dynastic ambition.
In this ominous twilight, Uganda’s citizens must confront the existential question: will they surrender to the allure of stability, trading liberty for the false promise of security, or will they rise, fueled by the unyielding spirit of resistance, to reclaim their birthright? The answer hangs in the balance, suspended between the tyranny of silence and the courageous cry for freedom.
Ultimately, Muhoozi’s loyalty announcement masks a sinister reality: a deliberate, well-orchestrated plot to perpetuate authoritarian rule. The stage is set for a Museveni-Muhoozi dynasty, with electoral reforms manipulated to ensure NRM dominance.
Uganda’s democratic facade crumbles, revealing a disturbing truth: the country’s future is being dictated by a father-son pact, not the will of the people. Ugandans must resist this blatant attempt to strangle democracy and demand free, fair elections.
