For the last one year, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) once a vibrant political party has been a theatre of struggles, struggles not to remove Museveni but who the real leaders of the party are.
As the storm continued to fly, these ended up camping in two camps one which sits at Najjanankumbi led by Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Jack Sabiti as Party President, Secretary General and National Chairman respectively and another camp which sits at Katonga road led by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Harold Kaija and Amb Waswa Birigwa as Substantive President, Secretary General and National Chairman.
Trouble emanates from rumors that Nandala Mafabi and Patrick Oboi Amuriat received some evil money from Museveni to destabilize FDC and they used part of it to fund Amuriat’s presidential campaign trails in the 2021 elections. This was first echoed by firebrand opposition king Dr Kiiza Besigye and later mediations failed hence the divisions.

The Katonga faction launched Nation-wide consultative meetings to find a way forward from their FDC members in all regions, all the other regions suggested a new party and only Teso, Acholi and Kasese dragged their feet and insisted on mediations.
After sucessfully going around the whole country collecting opinions, Katonga held their first ever National Delegates conference at Besigye’s Katonga office and all members agreed in unison to disolve the Forum for Democratic Change and paved way for a new party giving themselves a six months period to wind up all FDC business.
Now in a bid not to be left behind schedule ahead of the 2026 elections, the Katonga has already submitted formal request to register and reserved a name for their new political party. These have chosen PEOPLE’S FRONT FOR FREEDOM (PFF) and chosen White and Royal Blue as the Party Colors. They have also chosen the PHONE as the party symbol and will use FREEDOM FOR ALL, ALL FOR FREEDOM as their party slogan.
In a reservation note filed with the electoral commission seen by this publication, Former Leader of Opposition Wafula Oguttu, Kamateneti Ingrid Turinawe, Wanda Ronald, Mutesi Anne Marie, Kunihira Proscovia are among the members who signed the political party registration request.
The others who have signed the party registration request already recieved by the electoral commission include Nakasolya Jane, Nanyonjo suzan, Bassima Sarah Ssengendo, Hon Oduman Albert Charles Okello, Opoka Keneth and Hon Ojok B’ Leo.
This development now ushers in a new reality for the Forum for Democratic Change as a once vibrant party and if the Katonga group suceeds to register PFF, it will the second political party splitting for FDC after Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) now headed by Mugisha Muntu, Alice Alaso and Winnie Kiiza who parted ways with Najjanankumbi in 2018.
Speaking to Media mid last week in reaction to the resolutions of the Katonga faction, Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat referred to the Ssemuju and Lukwago group as comedians. He said their resolutions hold no locus since these are nolonger FDC members.
Amuriat also sounded warnings to Conservative Party (CP) president John Ken Lukyamuzi the Man to be careful with the Katonga faction. He also revealed that he had intel that they’re planning to take over his party to by pass the nitgritties of a new party registration the way Bobi Wine did to Kibalama but seems POA he had wrong intelligence and needs to fire his informers.
Reports from the corridors in Najjanankumbi and Katonga reveal that Amuriat is left with a few Members of parliament in the 11th parliament and the rest have since joined Besigye in Katonga. Sources say, the FDC party Whip in parliament Yusuf Nsibambi, Geofrey Ekanya and Nathan Nandala Mafabi are the only legislators still associating with POA.
