Police and raided National Unity Platform offices in Kamwokya where it engaged their supporters in running battles and top party leaders were consequently arrested. It was reported that NUP had organized prayers for it’s detained colleagues and the victims of brutality.

Those arrested included party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, Pastor Andrew Muwanguzi and Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya alongside other religious leaders and clerics who had gathered at NUP offices in Kamwokya for the prayers.

Ssenyonyi and Rubongoya were bundled in a famous drone and driven to Kira road police station. This poured cold water on plans by NUP to hold prayers on this independence day at the party offices.

However, despite the arrests and running battles at Kamwokya where prayers were set to take place and also speaking to journalists, Bobi Wine decided to hold the independence prayers and spoke to journalists from his home where he’s been caged since last week when he was grabbed off a Rwanda-air plane and driven to his home.

Bobi Wine hosted relatives of NUP supporters who are detained, those killed and those whose whereabouts are not known. These held prayers for their people to be released by the Museveni government which always picks them using the famous drones.

The celebrations to mark Uganda’s 61st independence commemoration took place in the northern Uganda district of Kitgum where president Museveni emphasized and urged Ugandans to stop politics of identity and wealth creation.
