Nabilatuk District Residents Brave Thirst As Shs2billion Water Systems Fail To Work

NABILATUK: A total of 70,000 people of Lorengedwat, Natapar Arengan and Juju in Nabilatuk district have asked for investigations into the failed water systems that has made several households in the district share water sources with animals.

In the financial year 2020- 2021, the ministry of water and environment released about Shs2billion to Nabilatuk district to construct clean piped water for four trading centers however, all the four systems have failed to work.

The systems are located in areas such as Lorengedwat sub county, Natapar Arengan, Natapar Akwanga and Nabilatuk town council.

A visit by this website to one of the sites in Lorengedwat, noted that armed cattle rustlers now take advantage of the built tank where they climb up and enter inside the tank hiding as they do survey for where to go and raid.

Peter Lokut a resident of Lorengedwat sub county says the water tank in the area is just a monument adding that it had never worked ever since it was installed.

“Let the state house Anti-corruption unit come and check on this water project, because we are aware money was eaten up”- Lokut suggests

Paul Lokol the district chairperson Nabilatuk district says it was shocking to notice that all the four sites are not working.

“I have asked the district water officer what is happening but am not getting answer”-Lokol reveals

On his part while speaking to this publication, Micheal Lokiru the district water officer says some of the sites were vandalized by locals especially in Natapar Arengan.

“We were supposed to have repaired all these systems but we don’t have money”-Lokiru reveals.

While Rose Tebakol  from Natapar Arengan says she’s one of the water user committee of the project but she has never seen any drop of water ever since it was constructed and completed two years down the road.
