Alur Kingdom Mourns Former Lango Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii

The Alur Kingdom has extended its deepest condolences to the people of Lango, who are in mourning and profound grief over the death of His Highness Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii, the former Won Nyaci (Paramount Chief) of Lango.

He passed away at Lira University Teaching Hospital on November 10, 2025, aged 99.

Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, Prime Minister (Jadipu) of Alur Kingdom, speaking on behalf of His Royal Majesty Ubimu Philip Olarker Rauni III and all Alur people, said:“Ker Alur is heartbroken. Mzee Yosam was a big cultural tree who promoted peace, unity, and our ways of life. He changed Lango, Uganda, and touched many kingdoms. We will miss his wisdom and humility greatly.”

He added: “The whole Alur Kingdom stands with the family, Lango Cultural Foundation, and the people of Uganda. You are not alone. Our hearts and prayers go to you. May God comfort you all.”

“May the soul of Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii rest in eternal peace.”

The sad news came from his son Anthony Olobo Odur: “Mzee died in my arms at 4:20 AM. He went for medical check-up two days ago.” Born in the early 1920s, Mzee Odur Ebii became a strong elder and unifier in Lango.

In 2003, he was crowned Won Nyaci of the Lango Cultural Foundation (LCF).For over 20 years, he led Lango through hard times, especially after the LRA war. He fought for peace, forgiveness, and bringing back Lango culture.

Lango Sub-region and Uganda’s cultural family mourn this giant. His legacy of service, peace, and respect lives on.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
