The rains have began trickling in. Not in abundance as in the South and Western parts of Uganda. Yet the people of Karamoja are hopeful and have began clearing the thorny bushes away from their land, planning to plant some crops and avert the hunger crisis.
However a number of them argue that they have not received the long awaited fast growing drought resistant seeds and are eager to plant.
Government has in recent times come up with fast growing seed varieties such as the ‘eyok meret’ bean variety NARO has developed and the Ministry of Karamoja Affairs has been promoting. The ‘eyok meret’ is not only said to be fast growing but also rich in nutrients.
