Chaos has ensued at the Bomas of Kenya where the presidential results were set to be announced from. Kenyans have been anxiously waiting for the IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati to declare who the 5th president of Kenya will be.
The announcement had been scheduled for 3pm, postponed to 4pm and with chaos at Bomas it remains unclear when the announcement will be made. Three of the four presidential candidates had already arrived and one belonging to the Azimio la Umoja coalition Raila Odinga had not arrived and this raised questions.
In the videos making rounds on social media, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina was seen being bundled away by security and as soon as the Chairperson Wafula Chebukati was assaulted and later whisked away.
As Chebukati made his way to the podium, his other four commissioners were at Serena Hotel issuing a divergent statement regarding the presidential results which they have termed as opaque.
The four commissioners disassociating with Chebukati’s results include Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyangaya and Irene Masit. The commissioners are sighting some irregularities in the process how the results have been handled.
We are four commissioners here out of the seven, we are not at Bomas because we can not take ownership of the results going to be announced because of the opaque nature of the results have been handled.
Earlier the Azimio la Umoja team led by the chief Agent Saitabao Kanchori claimed they have intelligence IEBC systems were compromised and want to verify the results before the announcement is made.
