Breaking News: Kibalama’s Hopes In NUP Deflated As Electoral Commission Issues Statement

Following confusion on who are the rightful leaders of the national Unity Platform, Electoral Commission has made it’s position on who the leaders of the party are in regards to the recent happenings.

In a letter addressed to Moses Nkonge Kibalama and his right-hand Man Paul Simbwa Kagombe, Electoral commission has reminded the duo on how they resigned as leaders in NUP and prior to their resignation, they chaired a meeting that ushered in new national executive committee leaders.

“You will recall that in the final submissions you made to the Electoral Commission on 21st July, 2020, you and Mr. Ssimbwa Paul Kagombe resigned as Party Leaders and both of you signed as out-going leaders.” Writes EC

Prior to your resignation, you did chair a meeting that conducted elections of office bearers, to whom you handed over respective offices, and the subsequent Party meeting held elections of its National Executive Committee-Reads part of the statement

According to the electoral commission, it’s therefore wrong for Mr. Kibalama and Simbwa Kagombe to claim to be leaders in the National Unity Platform when in actual sense they resigned willingly and voluntarily without being forced out.

This now puts the purported Delegates conference convened by Kibalama and his friends last month at balance and it stands null and void since it’s not recognized by the Electoral Commission which oversees political party activities in Uganda.

Yesterday Electoral Commission confirmed receiving a letter from Mzee Kibalama’s right hand man Simbwa Paul Kagombe regarding changes to party leadership and promised to issue a statement on the same.

Electoral Commission Statement on the Confusion In NUP

Prior to EC’s letter, Kibalama and his Spokesperson a one Gideon Tugume had unveiled their own NUP headquarters in Lubaga, Kampala and also warned Bobi Wine and all leaders elected on the NUP ticket to report to their office or risk losing their juicy positions.

According to the statement issued by Electoral Commission, the known leaders of National Unity Platform are Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) as president, with Dr Lina Zedriga,Jolly Mugisha, John Baptist Nambeshe, Mathia Mpuuga as Deputy preidents for northern, Western, Eastern and Central Uganda respectively.

Known Leaders Of NUP According To EC

The statement also indicates David Lewis Rubongoya as the known party’s General Secretary not Paul Kagombe as had been indicated by Moses Kibalama in his purpoted delegates conference held last month.

This leaves Kibalama and his group with no option but seek redress from court if they can retain the party back from Bobi Wine and his Kamwokya group.
