The Chairperson Sub-committee on Media and Publicity, Paul Amoru Omiat told ChimpReports on Friday that youth contribution is critical in the upcoming event; hence the invitations.

“As Parliament we value youth and indeed it is important to have their representatives and student leaders to participate at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference. We have reached out to them to nominate their representatives for the event,” said Amoru.

Amoru added that the conference, congregating 9 regions including Africa, Asia, Australia, British Islands and Mediterranean, Canada Caribbean, American and Atlantic, India, Pacific and South East Asia, has a special component for youth called Youth Roundtable.

“The participants will deliberate on issues of climate change, innovations in parliaments, facilitation for persons with disability, CPA Lecture, urbanization, sexual harassment, separation of powers, post legislative scrutiny, CPA benchmarks for democratic legislatures and more importantly youth round table,” he said.

The conference under the theme, “Adaptation, engagement and evolution of Parliaments in a rapidly changing Commonwealth” is coming to Uganda for the second time since country first hosted it 52 years ago in 1967.
